Deep Dives for our Jesus Curriculum

We have recently received funding from a couple of grants to invest time and resources into updating existing lessons and creating a new one to create a more intentional package which will be called our 'Jesus Curriculum'. Our aim is to encourage schools to book all 6 lessons so each young person receives each one of them (along with other Step lessons) during their time at school.

The six lessons will be
  • Walk through the Bible
  • Who is Jesus
  • Parables
  • Narnia Resurrection
  • Forgiveness
  • Incarnation of Jesus

To help us develop these lessons, we are conducting some 'deep dives' where we meet with 4 or 5 young people and ask what they thought about the lessons. We had our first meetings last week and it was amazing to chat with students about the Who is Jesus and Parables lessons. Not only did we receive useful feedback, it was a fantastic opportunity to go into greater depth about the Bible stories they'd heard- sometimes for the very first time.

In one 'deep dive' we also heard first hand the excitement of a young lad with a fledgling faith receiving the accompanying Good News for Everyone (GNFE) Bible that we give during the Who is Jesus lesson. He had previously seen a Year 8 student with a GNFE Bible and really wanted a pocket Bible to keep with him. He'd been looking at places to buy one and then he was given one as part of a Step Day. He says he now reads it at least 6 times a week and said how useful it was having the 'helps' at the start of the Bible (these are references to Bible passages that could help us when we are sad, angry, anxious etc.)

During the Step Day he loved using the Bible to find the parables in the quiz, many of which he hadn't heard before. He also shared how reading the parable of the Lost Sheep has helped him understand that when we mess up God comes looking for us and brings us back onto his path.

We hope to undertake many more of these 'deep dives' in the coming months.
