Verulam Christianity Day - Another Huge Success
We recently had an amazing day with the Year 7 students at Verulam, supported by a team of 14 Step staff and volunteers. The students were engaged, enthusiastic, and eager to participate in all the activities, asking thought-provoking questions about the Christian faith.
In the weeks leading up to the event, we introduced them to our ‘Arguments for the Existence of God’ lesson. However, one key argument -the person of Jesus - was intentionally left for one of their first session of the day. During this session, they explored the question: Who is Jesus? Was he truthful, deceptive, or delusional when he claimed to be God? Did he really exist? Together, we examined the evidence, including fulfilled prophecies and miracles that demonstrated his authority over nature, illness, sin, and even death.
The rest of the day was packed with engaging activities. The Parables session focused on the stories of the Lost Son and the Good Samaritan, encouraging students to reflect on themes of forgiveness, grace, and loving our neighbours. In the interactive Fairtrade lesson, they explored injustices in the world and how the Christian faith calls us to respond through our actions - including the way we shop. The day also featured an Alpha Taster session, an inter-form Kahoot quiz - where a team of four boys from York House claimed victory - and a final reflection on the Body of Christ, helping students consider their own purpose in life and what it means to live by the school motto of Faire Mon Devoir (do my duty).
Each student received a Good News for Everyone New Testament (formerly Gideons) to use throughout the day, and almost all chose to keep their copy. We’re excited to continue journeying with this year group throughout their time at Verulam and we hope to connect with some of them in the future through the newly adapted Youth Alpha course, designed to help them explore faith in a deeper way.
