Step Up Day Season Nearing its End

I wonder what you were doing 30 years ago. Maybe some of you reading this wouldn’t have even been born. Exactly thirty years ago, I was entering the last few weeks of my time at primary school and experiencing a mixture of different emotions. I was feeling excitement about my journey to a new school but at the same time I was understandably a little anxious and sad to leave my primary school behind. I still remember that time vividly.

This is the time of year where hundreds of Year 6 children across St Albans and Harpenden will be going through that same journey and we have the real joy of being a part of that transition. Over the last three weeks, we have delivered a Year 6 Step Up Day in ten different primary schools (and we have our final two next week). The aim of our Step Up Days are to prepare the children for their move through various games, crafts and reflections, but also to make connections with the children so Step are not strangers when they join their new school in September.

The feedback from staff has been really positive again this year. We already have one date confirmed for 2024 and one Year 6 teacher from a different school emailed us with the following

“On behalf of all of the Year 6 team and the children, I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who made Tuesday such a fun and enlightening experience. The sessions were well organised; were pitched at the right level and had a good pace resulting in the children being engaged and motivated throughout the day. There was a real buzz from the children, and I know that our Year Sixes got a lot out of sessions and now feel better equipped for the transition to secondary school.”

If you are someone who prays, please remember all the Year 6 children who are making this move up to secondary school this summer.

Geoff
