Verulam's Verso Care Collection Launched

Step has been supporting Verso Care (formerly called Vineyard Care Centre and includes the food bank, FEED) for well over ten years through arranging collections in schools for much-needed food and toiletry items.

This week sees the start of Verulam's two-week collection, which were launched last week through assemblies looking at what things are worth. The boys firstly had to decide whether a comic book that Superman first appeared in, a 40-year old piece of wedding cake from the now King Charles and Princess Diana, or the false teeth worn by Winston Churchill for his famous speeches in WW2, were more expensive (I'll leave you to Google the answers or get in touch if you really want to know).

We then reflected that sometimes we don't know the value of what we have in our possession, like Ron Wayne who sold his 10% share of Apple for $800, a company now worth over $3 trillion and maybe we fail to realise the value of our gifts to those who really need it.

The main focus of the assembly was the story of the Widow's Mite. My hope for the boys is that they enter into the collection, despite it being a House competition, with a heart of sacrifice and generosity, and not for public acclamation, just like the widow (who Jesus said gave more than all the others) in the story did.

We will update you on their total through Facebook so keep an eye out for that.

Geoff
