Parade Service
Geoff and I spent Sunday 20th with St Albans United Reformed Church on Homewood Road along with local Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. This is a service we run twice a year and normally we also have the Brownies and Guides with us as well but this time they were on a camp.
The theme of the service was Jesus flipping things upside down. We took inspiration from a song called Upside Down by Virtual Sunday School, which if you would like to take a listen can be found here.
The song helps us to remember that Jesus turns the world’s message of “only the best” into His message of “everyone’s a guest”. He turns the world’s message of “be rich and wealthy” into His message of “give generously.” He turns the world’s message of “worry and stress” into His message of “trust God with the mess” and He turns the world’s message of “be your own boss” to His message of “there’s one King and he dies on the cross.”
We went on to look at Zacchaeus’ encounter with Jesus and how this completely flipped his world upside down for the better. There was a chance for the whole congregation, both children and adults, to reflect and write down something they would like Jesus to flip upside down in their life.
Geoff ended the service with this blessing and my hope is that you can experience it too:
God, help us to be a shining light
Help us to walk your way
Help us to live life right
And as we leave today we ask that you will flip us to be more like you. Amen.
