Working together - Illuminate Cathedral
“I had the best time on Saturday evening!” Is just some of the wonderful feedback I’ve heard so far about the Illuminate Cathedral event that Step was a part of on Saturday evening.
It was amazing to see 280 young people going round the Cathedral getting involved in different activities and having fun. Then all stood in worship together towards the end of the evening under the beautiful Doves of Peace installation.
What was wonderful about this event is that it was a massive collaborative effort put on by Illuminate. For those who don’t know Illuminate is a collaborative group of local youth leaders along with Step, 267 and Young Life, all with the aim of putting on fun and exciting events for young people which help them to encounter the light of Jesus. (If you want to find out more about Illuminate click here).
It was also awesome to have 75 leaders from over 30 different groups coming together to allow the event to run smoothly.
Step led one of the activity areas and we had our Justice SPACE Mat up for young people to explore and reflect on. We also had a number of prayer stations that the young people could engage with which were located under the Doves of Peace. It was wonderful to see a number of young people engaging with the Justice SPACE Mat and having the chance to explore the topic of Justice in a new way.
What was also brilliant about the event though was seeing so many of the young people we know from schools there. Whilst there were some young people we knew were coming along because they’re part of lunch groups which we invited them from there were also a number who we had no idea were coming until we bumped into them on the night. The conversations that were able to happen across the night were fantastic and I think we’re all looking forward to the next Illuminate event.

Such a powerful presentation. Wonderful to read some of the process behind it too.
Great to see young people engage in this way.
