A Great Day with a Great Year Group
We had a fantastic day with the Year 7s at Verulam recently with 16 of the Step team, a mixture of staff and volunteers, inputting into the day. They were a brilliant year group who got stuck in with all the activities and asked some incredible questions about the Christian faith.
A few weeks prior to the day, we taught them our ‘Arguments for the Existence of God’ lesson (which there is another latest news article about). The final argument that we didn’t go into detail at the time was the person of Jesus as it was purposefully kept until the first session of the day where they all explored the question, Who is Jesus? Was he telling the truth, lying or crazy when he claimed to be God? Was he a real person? The evidence of fulfilled prophecies and miracles demonstrating his power over death, illness, sin and nature were examined.
The rest of the day included sessions on Jesus’ parables, our interactive Fairtrade lesson, an Alpha Taster session, an inter-form Kahoot quiz and a final reflection looking at the Parable of the Prodigal Son in the context of discovering our purpose in life.
They each were given a Good News for Everyone (formerly Gideons) New Testament to use throughout the day and most kept their copy. We are really looking forward to journeying with this year group throughout their time in Verulam and with a few of them in the coming weeks when we arrange a Youth Alpha course with those who showed an interest after the taster session.
